Merging duplicate patients

Updated 30 Oct 2026

If one person is recorded as two patients, merge them into one medical record number (MRN). Merging requires the "Merge duplicate patients" permission and is recorded in the audit log.

Steps

  1. Search for the patient; Medivana flags possible duplicates (same NIK, or same name and date of birth).
  2. Choose the target patient (the MRN to keep, usually the oldest or most complete record) and the source patient.
  3. Compare the data and choose the correct values for the identity fields.
  4. Confirm. The source patient's visit history, prescriptions, invoices, and consents are moved to the target patient. The source patient is deactivated with a "merged into" marker and is not deleted.

Important

  • A merge cannot be undone from the screen; contact the Medivana team if you merged the wrong patients.
  • Make sure both records really are the same person (check the NIK, date of birth, and mother's name if needed).
